Fresno concerts, events called off over coronavirus. Here’s an updated list

Fear of the coronavirus continues to cause major effect on Fresno’s entertainment scene, as governor Gavin Newsom on Sunday called for the closure of all bars, wineries, nightclubs and brewpubs.
Multiple events have been canceled, postponed or rescheduled concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rogue Festival continued its second weekend in the Tower District, though many of the individual shows have canceled. See the festival’s website for an updated performance list.
Paul Collins, the proto-punk and power pop guitarist best known for playing with the Nerves and his own band the Beat, has canceled the remaining dates on his northwest tour. He was slated to play Fulton 55 on March 18.
In a post on Facebook, Collins said he canceled the tour with deep regret to his friends and fans. “The situation has become too unpredictable and after much consideration we have decided to cancel. We sincerely hope that you understand our decision and we hope that we can reschedule when things get back to normal.”
As coronavirus concerns grow, the entertainment industry has been in a state of flux. Several cities and counties have recommended bans on large (and sometimes smaller) gatherings. Santa Clara county, home to the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, looked to ban crowds of more than 1,000. A ban on gathering of more than 250 people has been announced (if not yet implemented) for the city of Seattle.
For their part, musicians and promoters are being proactive. Pearl Jam, which was slated to kick off its North American tour next week, announced a postponement on Monday, saying the risk of continuing with the tour was “too high for our comfort level.”
The promotions company Goldenvoice announced it would be moving both the Coachella and Stagecoach music festival to later in the year. Coachella will now happen the weekends of Oct. 9 and 16. Stagecoach will take place the following weekend, Oct. 23.
California Classic Weekend
The California Classic Weekend and Orangetheory Health and Fitness Expo has been canceled for the year. The event, which featured a series of bicycling and running events was scheduled to start April 3.
“The decision to cancel was not taken lightly, after thousands of man hours invested by our many event coordinators and volunteers and you, the participants, in training and planning for that perfect run or bike event,” said director Mike Herman.
While full refunds are not being offered, information on other options for those registered for the event (including a partial refund) is available on the CCW website.
Fresno Chaffee Zoo
The Fresno Chaffee Zoo has been temporarily closed and all programs and events are canceled or will be postponed with full refunds would be available. As of Saturday’s announcement there was no word on when the zoo may reopen.
Table Mountain Casino
The Table Mountain Casino in Friant has closed temporarily. The casino will reopen in April, according to a news release. Employees’ base pay rates and benefits will be honored during the closure.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Southern rock back Lynyrd Skynyrd has postponed its Last of the Street Survivors tour stop at Fresno’s Save Mart Center. The band was scheduled to perform Friday. They will now play Aug. 14. Tickets will be honored for the new date with refunds available at point of purchase.
FresYes Fest
Organizers of the FresYes Fest, on the other hand are postponing the annual event until the fall. The annual music, food and beer festival was slated for March 21 and was expected to draw close to 20,000 people to downtown Fresno.
Brantley Gilbert
The Brantley Gilbert concert at Save Mart Center on March 27 has been postponed.
Rescheduled dates will be announced soon, the Save Mart Center said in a news release Thursday. Tickets will be honored for the rescheduled show.
Baby Shark Live
Baby Shark Live, the touring show based on the ear-worm children’s song, has postponed its April 3 performance at the Save Mart Center. A show will be rescheduled, though a new date has not been announced.
Tickets will be honored on the new date (with the same seating location). Refunds are available at point of purchase. Tickets purchased at the Save Mart Center Box Office can be refunded on site. Fans who purchased through Ticketmaster can call 800-745-3000 to request a refund.
Wild ‘N Out
Nick Cannon is proactively rescheduling the remaining date on his Wild ‘N Out tour, which was slated to stop at the Save Mart Center April 5. New dates are expected, but have not been finalized. Tickets will be honored for the new date, with refunds are available at point of purchase.
Fulton 55, Cellar Door
The downtown nightclub Fulton 55 will be temporarily suspending operations. According to a post on the venue’s Facebook page, most of the upcoming shows have been postponed and will be rescheduled. Tickets that have already been purchased can he held for the rescheduled.
Visalia’s Cellar Door has also suspended all shows through March.
Minor League Baseball
In a statement on Thursday, Minor League Baseball said it would delay the start of its 2020 season. This will affect game play for The Fresno Grizzlies and Visalia Rawhide teams. The Grizzlies opening night had been scheduled for April 14 against the Reno Aces.
Fresno State
Fresno State is evaluating its near-term events and meetings on a case-by-case basis and relying on recommendations from the CSU Chancellor’s Office to determine any potential cancellation or postponement, according to a statement from the University.
The College of Arts and Humanities has canceled the Arts in Motion Showcase week, which was set to March 22. All public events, including the March 28 culminating event at the Fresno State Concert Hall have been canceled.
Already, it has canceled the Peach Blossom Festival, which was scheduled to start on Thursday.
It also has also canceled next week’s President’s Lecture Series, which was to feature “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan. The event had been scheduled for March 17 at the Save Mart Center.
The Mountain West Conference on Thursday suspended all of its spring sports competitions, following a number of other conferences and pro sports leagues.
“The Board has determined the most prudent course of action is to align with the recommendations of public health care and government officials to help limit the spread of the virus,” the conference stated in a news release.
Mountain West teams on the road at the time of the suspension may complete those events and then return to campus, the conference said. Those teams that have not yet departed shall suspend travel immediately.
Fresno Philharmonic
Fresno Philharmonic has postponed its performance with Pink Martini, which was scheduled for March 21 at the Saroyan Theatre. The concert will be rescheduled. No date has been announced. A decision has not yet been made on whether the philharmonic’s April 26 performance of Daniel R. Martin Masterworks Series “The World of Opera,” will be postponed.
Other events
PBR rescheduled its Whisky Velocity tour stop at the Save Mart Center. The March 21 and 22 event will now happen Aug. 22-23. Tickets will be honored on the new date, though refunds are available at point of purchase.
Jojo Siwa has rescheduled her March 24 date the Save Mart Center. The concert will now happen June 13. Tickets will be honored for new date.
The San Joaquin Valley Town Hall has postponed its March lecture with Dr. Paul Hessburg. The event was scheduled for Wednesday. A decision has yet to be made on the group’s April 15 lecture with CBS new host Jane Pauley.
Italian singing group Il Volo has canceled its Friday night performance at the Saroyan Theatre.
The Fabulously Funny Comedy Festival, featuring headliner comedian Mike Epps, has postponed a Saturday night performance at the Saroyan Theatre.
The Glenn Miller Orchestra’s March 16 concert at the Saroyan Theatre has been canceled.
Sunday night’s concert from Mexican singer Ana Gabriel at the Save Mart Center has been postponed. A new date will be forthcoming.
The Cat House on the Kings canceled its annual open house fundraiser, which had been scheduled for April 18. This is the major fundraiser for the no-kill cat sanctuary. Donations are being accepted in lieu of the event.
This weekend’s St. Patrick’s Day Run at Woodward Park has been postponed. The race was scheduled to happened Saturday at Woodward Park. Those registered will be notified when a new run date is chosen.
Madera Speedway has postponed its season opener. In a statement, organizers said they “examined every angle and looked for all opportunities to operate this event, but came to the conclusion it is in the best interest of our sport to follow the recommendations of the state and county.”
Practice activities for Friday will proceed as scheduled and the track will shut down on Saturday. The grandstands will be closed both days.
Saturday’s USAC West Coast Sprint Car race at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford has also been canceled.
Central Valley Honor Flight on Wednesday announced that it would suspend its upcoming trip to Washington D.C. in accordance with the national Honor Flight Network.
The Special Olympics Northern California canceled its Fresno Polar Plunge fundraiser on Wednesday. The event was scheduled for Saturday at Millerton Lake.
“The health and safety of our athletes, families, volunteers and Polar Plunge participants are our top priorities,” said David Solo, the group’s president and CEO in a statement. All Special Olympics competitions, practices and healthy athletes events have also been canceled, through March 31.
Representative TJ Cox has canceled a round table discussion with House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson. The event was scheduled for Friday morning at the Kingsburg Railroad Depot and would have included discussions on agricultural policy issues and federal services available to those in the industry.
On Tuesday, The Hidden Wealth Foundation announced it would be postponing the Fresno Holi Celebration. The event, a collaboration with the Bay Area group Non Stop Bhangra, was scheduled for Saturday at Woodward Park. It has been moved to April 18. Tickets will be good for the new date, though refunds are available by email at holifresno@gmail.com.
The Roadshow tour, featuring Bethel Music, Matt Maher, Martin Smith of Delirious?, Unspoken, ApolloLTD, Peabod and Elle Limebear has canceled its remaining dates. That includes a scheduled performance, March 17, at the Saroyan Theatre. Ticket holders can expect a refund within seven days.
Danzantes Unidos has canceled this year’s Danzantes Unidos Festival. The annual gathering of folklorico artists was slated for April 3-5 at Roosevelt High School. More than 800 performers from 40 folklorico companies were expected to attend.
Fresno Community Chorus has canceled its current runs of rehearsals and has rescheduled its upcoming “Finding Refuge” concert. The concert was slated for March 20. It will now happen Nov. 22. The community chorus, has more than 250 singers in its ensembles.
The Fresno Community Concert Band canceled its Sunday night “Musical for All” concert. The band’s April 5 concert has also been canceled. It’s hopes to return for a May 24 concert at Shaghoian Concert Hall.
In Visalia, the annual IrishFest celebration and parade has been posptoned. It was scheduled for Saturday at Rawhide Park. A new date is expected, but have not been announced. Other Tulare County events on hiatus: the Riverway Sports Park Softball Complex grand opening and Pillars of Fame events scheduled for Saturday.
The Sequoia Symphony has postponed Saturday’s performance of Colorful Arrivals at the Visalia Fox Theatre. The event will return sometime in May.
West Hills College in Coalinga has canceled its Spring Rodeo. It had been scheduled to occur at the college’s rodeo grounds March 190-22.
Michael Bublé has postponed the first leg of his An Evening with Michael Bublé tour. The postponed dates run March 17-April 5 and the singer will continue with his scheduled dates beginning May 2 in Anaheim.
Bublé’s May 3 show at the Save Mart Center will be unaffected and continue as normal.
The Knights of Columbus in Fresno has canceled its annual St. Patrick’s Dinner. The dinner was planned fro Saturday at St. Anthony of Padua and expected to draw some 700 people. The Knights will provide refunds on the day of the event at the Church Event Center.
In Clovis, the Miss Winkles Fundraiser Dinner and Pet Fashion Show scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.
California Health Sciences University has postponed three upcoming events, including its Ignite the Future scholarship gala. That event was scheduled for March 20. A VIP reception and ribbon cutting ceremony for the new College of Osteopathic Medicine building, scheduled for March 31 and April 1, respectively) have also been postponed.
