In late 2020, McCoy’s Coffee Shop burned to a pile of rubble, with only its brick walls and a sign with melted letters still standing upright.

Now IHOP, the chain breakfast giant, is planning to build a restaurant on the site.

The spot — on Clovis Avenue just north of Kings Canyon Road — has been cleaned up and IHOP has started the process to build a new location.

The company confirmed with The Bee Friday that it’s starting the process to build there. It’s aiming to be open toward the end of the year.

A development application filed with the City of Fresno calls for a 3,561-square-foot restaurant with a 922-square-foot covered patio.

It will have a parking lot with 39 spaces.

It would be the fourth IHOP location in the city, the next closest in downtown Fresno on Tulare Street.

IHOP — short for International House of Pancakes — is known for its breakfast food, including its sweet take on the traditional, such as the 800-calorie cupcake pancakes made with rainbow sprinkles and icing.

It also serves burgers, sandwiches and steak dinners.

Most Fresno IHOP locations are open from 6 a.m. to midnight on weekends.

Development at Kings Canyon and Clovis

IHOP isn’t the only one with plans to move into the neighborhood. It’s about to a see a flurry of new development, including Tractor Supply Co. planning to build a new store across the street.

Burlington and Ross are headed to the shopping center on the northeast corner of Kings Canyon and Clovis Avenue. Work is also starting on Fancher Creek, a new shopping center at nearby Clovis and Tulare avenues.
