A 3-year-old girl drowned Wednesday morning in an above-ground pool in the backyard of a Fresno home, police said.

Officers responded at 11:20 a.m. in the 4600 block of East Washington Avenue, near Maple and Belmont avenues.

The girl was found in the pool by a friend of the father, police said.

First responders performed CPR on the child, who died later at Community Regional Medical Center, police said.
