A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning after getting struck by a semi truck in Fresno.

Officers responded to the crash at 7 a.m. at Blythe and Gates avenues, just behind Winco and found a victim who was run over by the semi while on a motorized scooter, Fresno Police Lt. Robert Dewey said.

According to Dewey, a citizen followed the semi and called police. Officers responded and were able to stop the semi in the area of Ashlan Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. The driver was being cooperative, Dewey said.

“We’re still trying to get to the bottom of exactly how this happened,” Dewey said. “Does not appear alcohol or drugs are involved at this point.”

Dewey said it’s possible the driver did not know that his semi collided with the pedestrian.

It’s unknown if the driver will face any charges. The identity of the victim was not immediately, Dewey said.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit will investigate the collision.
