Update: Sanger High student killed by vehicle identified by coroner. Other teen hit is stable
A Sanger High School student who was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office in an update Thursday.
He was 17-year-old Hubert Hsu of Fresno.
The crash occurred at 7:21 p.m. at the intersection of Bethel and Almond avenues. Officers arrived and found Hsu and a 17-year-old girl on the road.
They were taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where Hsu later died. The other was in critical but stable condition Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, Sanger Unified issued a statement saying the teens attended Sanger High.
“With profound sadness, we share heartbreaking news affecting our Sanger Unified family. Last night, two of our students were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. Our hearts are with both families, and we remain in close contact to offer our full support during this incredibly difficult time,” Sanger Unified wrote.
Police said the two were walking across Bethel at the intersection with Almond when they were struck by a vehicle that was traveling north on Bethel. The driver remained on the scene and was cooperative.
The investigation remains ongoing.
