Woman struck, killed walking dog ID’d by coroner. She was hit by off-duty Clovis officer

A woman who was struck and killed by a truck driven by an off-duty Clovis police officer Wednesday morning has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner as Ana Ortega, 51, of Sanger.

The collision took place about 7:50 a.m. on Clinton Avenue between Bethel and Greenwood avenues.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Salas reported that a Chevrolet truck was traveling east on Clinton and Ortega woman was walking her dog west on Clinton on the roadway when the truck veered into the direction of the woman causing critical injuries.

The off-duty officer got out of his truck and rendered aid, but the 51-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dog was injured in the collision and was taken to an animal hospital.

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor, Salas said.
