UPDATE: Woman struck, killed walking dog ID’d by coroner

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an off-duty Clovis police officer Wednesday morning east of Fresno.

The collision, the California Highway Patrol said, happened at 7:50 a.m. on Clinton Avenue between Bethel and Greenwood avenues.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said a Chevrolet truck was traveling east on Clinton and a woman was walking her dog west on Clinton on the roadway when the truck veered into the direction of the woman causing critical injuries.

The off-duty officer got out of his truck and rendered aid, but the 51-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dog was injured in the collision and was taken to an animal hospital.

Alcohol or drugs are not a factor, Salas said.
