Two killed in pair of sports car crashes on rain-slick Fresno roads named by coroner
The Fresno County coroner on Monday released the names of two people killed in high-speed crashes a day earlier while driving high-performance cars on rain-slick roadways.
Daniel Jimenez, 22, of Laton was killed a short time after 3 a.m. Sunday in Laton when the Chevrolet Corvette he was driving on Mt. Whitney Avenue went out of control at Fatima Avenue and slammed into a utility pole. The Corvette continued through several residential fences, struck a parked car and overturned.
Jimenez was dead when emergency workers arrived. The California Highway Patrol is investigating whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
Madera man dies in Manning Ave. crash
Aaron Beltran Arzola, 20, of Madera, died after his Nissan 350Z veered off Manning Avenue while approaching a curve west of Kings River Road about 9:40 a.m. Sunday, CHP spokesman Mike Salas reported.
The car overturned, tumbled down an embankment and slammed into a utility pole before crashing through a fence. Arzola died at the scene and an 18-year-old passenger suffered moderate injuries.
