Driver dies, passenger is hurt after high-speed crash along Manning Avenue near Reedley
UPDATE: Driver killed identified by coroner
The driver of a Nissan 350Z was killed Sunday morning when he lost control on a rain-slick roadway and crashed near Reedley, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal incident took place about 9:40 a.m. as the man was driving at a high rate of speed on Manning Avenue approaching a curve west of Kings River Road, CHP spokesman Mike Salas reported.
The car left the road, overturned down an embankment and slammed into a utility pole before crashing through a fence. The driver, 20, died at the scene and a passenger, 18, suffered moderate injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
It was not known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, Salas said, but toxicology tests were to be conducted.
