Commercial truck hits, kills pedestrian on Fresno street, police say. Driver stayed

A man crossing a major street on foot was struck and killed by a commercial truck with an attached crane, Fresno police said Thursday.

The driver was headed south on Parkway Drive about 10 a.m. when he went to turn right on Belmont Avenue near Highway 99, officer Felipe Uribe said.

The driver waited for traffic to clear and felt his truck hit something before stopping, Uribe said.

The pedestrian appears to have been crossing and was dragged by the truck, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver stayed at the scene and was not suspected of being impaired, police said.
