Woman struck by a vehicle and later died in Fresno. Driver remained on scene, police say

A pedestrian was struck and killed late Friday evening in Fresno.

The collision happened at 11:46 p.m. at North Bryan and West Fairmont avenues, near West Shaw Avenue. Lt. Mike Gebhart said a driver called police to say he had hit a woman on the roadway there.

The woman, described to be in her 40s, was taken by ambulance to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative, Gebhart said. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the case.

Northbound Bryan was closed for at least three hours.
