Update: Older man killed by train in Fresno County is identified by the coroner

UPDATE: The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the victim as George Prendiz Gonzales, 66, of Selma.

ORIGINAL STORY: An older man on a motorized scooter was killed by a train Friday in Selma and police warned drivers to stay clear of the major intersection.

The man was crossing the railroad about 2 a.m. on Floral Avenue and Front Street in Fresno County when his scooter got stuck in the tracks, police said in a news release.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was not available pending the notification of next of kin.

Police said about 6:40 a.m. in a Facebook post that traffic would be affected for several hours near the intersection, and recommended drivers avoid the area.
