4 new Tulare County coronavirus deaths, 19 additional cases. Kings County adds a dozen more

Four new coronavirus deaths were reported in Tulare County by health officials on Saturday.

COVID-19 cases there also grew overnight, authorities said, increasing by 19 to a total of 491.

Of the four recent deaths: The first died Wednesday and was between the ages of 41 and 64. Two people over the age of 65 died Thursday. The fourth was also over 65 and died Friday. No additional information about those deaths were provided by health officials in a Saturday update. Officials announced three other COVID-19 deaths in Tulare County the day before.

Tulare County said it has tested 2,145 people at its lab for COVID-19 – 295 of those tests for people in surrounding Valley counties.

Fresno County announced 15 new cases Saturday, increasing its total to 458.

Kings County health officials posted five new cases Saturday night after announcing 12 more Friday.

Of those, eight contracted the disease through close contact with a confirmed case, officials said. How the other four caught the contagious virus remains under investigation. Three are being treated in isolation, and the others have been quarantined, officials said.

COVID-19 in San Joaquin Valley counties

There have been over 1,000 cases of coronavirus in the central San Joaquin Valley.

Fresno County: 458 cases (160 recovered) and seven deaths

Tulare County: 491 cases (91 recovered) and 32 deaths

Merced County: 102 cases (61 recovered) and three deaths

Kings County: 52 cases (nine recovered) and one death

Madera County: 40 cases (27 recovered) and two deaths

There were more than 907,000 COVID-19 cases throughout the United States as of Saturday morning, the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reported.
