Coronavirus cases reach 1,000 in the central San Joaquin Valley. Fresno County adds 35
The total number of coronavirus cases in the central San Joaquin Valley has topped 1,000.
The count comes as health officials in Fresno County confirmed 35 new cases Thursday in the county health department’s regular late-afternoon update. Tulare County’s 12 new cases Thursday in its regular midday update pushed the six-county region over four digits; the total now stands at 1,043.
Tulare County’s total of 453 people who have tested positive for the virus tops the region. Twenty-five people have died, including eight this week. Tulare County also has the vast majority of the region’s 38 deaths.
Fresno County was at 419 cases Thursday. Seven county residents have died and 154 have recovered. The county has processed 5,579 tests.
Merced County had 100 confirmed cases, according to an update Thursday evening. Three people have died and 57 have recovered.
Madera County added three new cases Thursday, bringing the total up to 39. Two people have died and 27 have recovered.
Kings County had 35 positive cases as of Thursday evening. One person has died and nine have recovered.
As of Thursday, Mariposa County has yet to report a confirmed coronavirus case. Among the 101 tests administered, 97 have been negative. Four test are pending results.
