Raising Cane’s is planning another north Fresno chicken restaurant. Here’s what we know

Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers has burst onto the Fresno food scene with its drive-thru chicken, opening locations in Fresno, Clovis and several Valley cities.

And now another location is headed for northwest Fresno.

The company confirmed this week it is planning to open a restaurant near the intersection of Herndon Avenue and Riverside Drive in late 2023.

It did not share any specifics about which corner, saying it would make a public announcement in the future as details firm up.

However, the restaurant is listed as being in negotiations for a spot in the Marketplace at El Paseo on a document on the website of the company handling leasing for the shopping center.

El Paseo is the large shopping center anchored by Target, not far from Highway 99 near Herndon Avenue.

The document places Raising Cane’s on an empty plot of land just west of the shopping center’s main entrance, across from McDonald’s.

If it opens there, it will be the fourth chicken restaurant in the shopping center.

Neither Raising Cane’s nor the broker handling leases for the center would confirm where the restaurant is looking to locate. The restaurant is still in the planning stages. No permit applications have been filed with the City of Fresno under the Raising Cane’s name.

Raising Cane’s typically likes to be in highly visible locations fronting major roads.

There is also space on two other corners, including the one kitty corner from El Paseo where Costco wants to build a new store.

What is Raising Cane’s?

The restaurant specializes in one type of food: chicken fingers. You can get them in a sandwich, or in meals that come with two, three, four or six chicken fingers. The meals come with french fries, Texas toast and coleslaw.

Raising Cane is the name of the founder’s dog — a friendly yellow lab featured in the restaurant’s marketing.

The restaurant’s double drive-thru lanes are popular, with workers taking orders in the lanes and delivering the fast food to cars to speed the process.

Where is Raising Cane’s opening?

Raising Cane’s is building 10 new restaurants in central and northern California.

The first Fresno location opened in Fresno earlier this month on the site of the former Logan’s Roadhouse, which was torn down.

Other locations are open on Shaw Avenue, across from Sierra Vista Mall in Clovis, and Visalia, Tulare, Hanford.

Another location is in the works for East Kings Canyon Road and South Willow Avenue.
