The first Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in the Fresno-Clovis area is about to open.

The restaurant at 1055 Shaw Ave. in Clovis will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.

The popular fast food restaurant specializing in chicken fingers has opened locations in Hanford, Visalia and Tulare, but this is the first to open in town.

The highly anticipated restaurant will have two drive-thrus, a patio and indoor dining, and be open until 3:30 a.m. on weekends.

Here’s what to expect.

Opening day

At 7 a.m., “Caniacs” – what Raising Cane’s calls its fans – can start entering its “Lucky 20” drawing to award 20 customers age 13 and older free Raising Cane’s food for a year.

Winners will be drawn at 8 a.m. and customers must be present to win.

The first 100 dine-in customers will also get a free T-shirt.

Throughout the day, the restaurant will present donations to local organizations including the Clovis Sharks Football, Clovis High School Cheer and the Clark Intermediate School Band.

The Clovis Raising Cane’s was recently built on the site of the former Pier 1, which was torn down to make way for the restaurant.

It will be open Sundays through Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Thursdays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.

What is Raising Cane’s?

The restaurant specializes in one type of food: chicken fingers. You can get meals that come with two, three, four or six chicken fingers. All come with french fries, Texas toast and coleslaw.

Or, you can get three chicken fingers in sandwich form.

Raising Cane is the name of the founder’s dog — a friendly yellow Labrador featured in the restaurant’s marketing.

The restaurant is also known for donating to nonprofit causes.

The Clovis restaurant will employ more than 180 people. It will be the 51st location in California.

Raising Cane’s is building 10 new restaurants in central and northern California.

In Fresno, one is under construction on North Blackstone Avenue, on the site of the former Logan’s Roadhouse, which has been torn down.

Another Raising Cane’s is slated to open in southeast Fresno, in the Kings Canyon Pavilion shopping center at East Kings Canyon Road and South Willow Avenue.
