Free doughnuts at chains, local bakers host doughnutpalooza event Friday

National Doughnut Day is Friday and that means lots of free, discounted and downright cool doughnuts available in the Valley.

While the big chains are giving away free doughnuts, at least one local shop will sell discounted ones. A group of independent Fresno-area bakers will be selling their doughnuts and creative doughnut-inspired confections at Lanna Coffee.

First, Donut Fantasy at Bullard and West avenues, will sell all its doughnuts for $1 Friday. The shop is known for it creative doughnuts with toppings like Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, Lucky Charms and gummy worms.

As for the freebies, the one Krispy Kreme shop in Fresno at 5692 N. Blackstone Ave. will give away one free doughnut of your choice, with no purchase necessary.

The central San Joaquin Valley’s only Dunkin’ Donuts, in Hanford, will give away a free classic doughnut with any beverage purchase Friday. That includes doughnuts like glazed, blueberry cake, jelly, old fashioned and glazed chocolate, along with many others.

Sprinkles Donuts, at Maple and Behymer avenues in northeast Fresno, will debut its coffee crunch doughnut Friday. And Sweet Delicates, the bakery at 50 W. Bullard Ave. in Clovis, will sell doughnut-themed sugar cookies and cupcakes.

The big doughnut event, however, is in downtown Fresno from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lanna Coffee at 617 Broadway Street. Admission is free, but you’ll have to buy the Lanna coffee and goodies from several Fresno-area bakers participating.

Vendors include:

Sunshine & Sugar Bakery, a home-based bakery in Clovis, will sell doughnuts in flavors like lemon meringue, creme brulee, coconut cream pie and more.

Ooh De Lolli will sell a raw, vegan confection made from cocoa, avocado and maple syrup, and an Aztec doughnut parfait in a cup. It’ll also have ice cream sandwiches made from maple cronuts from Clovis-based Nutmeg & Thyme Bakery.

Clovis Donuts will have s’mores and other fancy doughnuts for sale.

Sprinkles Donuts will have its coffee crunch and other kinds available.

Local baker Brian Williams of Follow the Baker will sell little French macaron sandwich cookies made to look like doughnuts.
