Raiders’ Maxx Crosby and others named to the Pro Bowl and Derek Carr has injury scare

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby was told prior to the 16-14 win over the Cleveland Browns that he and linebacker Denzel Perryman and punter A.J. Cole were selected to their first Pro Bowl.

Crosby said he took some time to think about what just happened and was emotional about it.

“I was in rehab almost two years ago and I’m in the Pro Bowl.,” Crosby said. “This is a blessing. I show up and try to be the best teammate everyday and show my guys that I care. It just hit home and it’s special. It makes my family proud, my girl. Everybody around me is blowing up my phone and I’m crying like a baby because I know I work so hard. It’s starting to pay off. (Defensive line) coach (Rod) Marinelli pushes me everyday to be the best. The best player that I can be. He wants to see the best of me. He knows what I want and to be the best in the league. It is exciting.”

The Pro Bowl will take place on Feb. 6 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Perryman topped the Pro Bowl vote-getter among linebackers in the AFC by a fan vote.

He finished with 113,733 votes. Overall, he was sixth in the top-10 fan votes.

Other Raiders finishing in the top 10 include: defensive ends Yannick Ngakoue (fifth) and Crosby (sixth); tight end Darren Waller (fifth); strong safety Johnathan Abram (10th); kicker Daniel Carlson (fifth) and Cole (fifth).

The Pro Bowl roster selections are determined by the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches. Each group’s vote counts one-third toward determining the 88 All-Star players.

The full Pro Bowl roster will now be revealed at 5 p.m. PST Wednesday on NFL Network and NFL.com.

Scary moment for Derek Carr

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was sacked and fumbled in the third quarter and was lying on the field for at least a minute.

It was a scary moment for Carr and the Raiders who saw their leader go down against the Indianapolis Colts in 2016 when he sustained a season-ending leg injury.

Only this time, Carr got up and walked off the field and was working on the ankle on the sideline.

All is well with Carr.

“Honestly, I think it’s scar tissue that just keeps breaking,” Carr said. “I hear these pops and a rush in pain. Not again. I remember that feeling and it wears off. When I broke it, it didn’t really wear off. The scar tissue thing is weird. You feel a whole bunch of pops and you’re like is that all the ligaments because it hurts. I’m on it and I’m OK. When it first happened the first couple of minutes, I’m like I don’t know. I just prayed and thankfully it wasn’t anything serious.”

Carr finished the game with his 28th game-winning drive.

Will Compton’s mother dies

Raiders linebacker Will Compton was inactive prior to the game after the death of his mother Sunday night,.

Compton sent out a tweet.

“I am heart broken to let you know my mom suddenly passed away last night. I am headed home to be with family. It has been a brutal last 16 hours. Please love on your moms and keep my family in your thoughts and prayers. Our mom was everything to us,” Compton wrote in a tweet.

Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia said Compton called him Sunday night to inform him of his mom’s death.

“He ended up going him this morning and went back to Nashville and go to St. Louis with his wife to be with his dad and his brothers,” Bisaccia said.

“Our condolences to him and his family. We talked to the team about it this morning.”
