Jon Gruden promises Raiders changes: ‘We’re going to get it right.’ Plus injury updates
Coach Jon Gruden vows changes in the wake of the Oakland Raiders’ third consecutive loss, 42-21 Sunday to the Tennessee Titans.
The Oakland defense gave up a season-high 552 yards, including a 91-yard touchdown pass by Ryan Tannenhill to A.J. Brown.
“Sometimes you got to win the game of field position, you’ve got to force a three-and-out,” Gruden said Monday. “We weren’t able to do that (Sunday) from the jump and very, very concerned about it and we’re going to make some changes. We’re going to get it right.”
“What happened (Sunday) will not happen again. I can’t allow it to happen.”
Josh Jacobs, Trent Brown to play?
Running back Josh Jacobs and tackle Trent Brown could play again this season, pending OK from the Raiders’ medical staff.
Jacobs sat out Sunday because of a shoulder injury, and Brown is dealing with various injuries.
Both could return Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but it will be a wait-and-see approach.
“We’re going to try to win this game,” Gruden said. “Absolutely. We’re never going to put a guy out there that can’t play, but we’re going into the last game in the history of the Oakland Raiders and it’s an emotional time. We’re going to try to win the game. We’re not eliminated from the playoffs and we’re going to try to win every single time we strap it on.”
About those playoffs
Gruden’s right, the Raiders haven’t been mathematically eliminated, but at 6-7 it’s a long shot. The New York Times’ playoff calculator rates it at 1%.
Just three weeks ago they held the sixth seed at 6-4. Since, the Raiders have been outscored 116-33.
Foster Moreau update
Gruden said tight end Foster Moreau is out for the season because of a knee injury he suffered in the third quarter Sunday.
“I don’t believe it will be anything that will keep him out of next year, but I’m not going to make any predictions. It’s a tough injury, he’s got a lot of rehab ahead,” Gruden said.
Moreau had a 1-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, his fifth of the season.
“He came in here as a rookie and played good football for us and is going to be a big part of the Raiders future,” Gruden said.
