High school baseball: Rallies sends Torres, Washington Union to semis, plus other scores

Top-seed Roosevelt High was eyeing a semifinal matchup against No. 4 Minarets.

Problem is, the ninth-seeded Torres Toros weren’t ready to end the season.

Torres scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to force extra innings then scored four runs to beat the Rough Riders 9-5 in a Central Section Division VI playoff game.

Alex Meza drove in two runs for Torres, which advances to face Minarets.

Meanwhile in Easton, Washington Union erased a 1-0 deficit when Cole Roth hit a grand slam over the left-field fence, sending the third-seeded Panthers to a 5-1 victory over No. 6 Arroyo Grande 6-1 in D-II.

Panthers pitcher Trey Morris came on in relief in the seventh inning. Davin Finderup got the start and pitched 6.1 innings and gave up one run on two hits. He struck out five.

Washington will face No. 2 Kingsburg on Friday.
