The Bee’s Top 25 high school football rankings: Another 1-2 matchup set and two debut
One matchup of the top two high school football teams in The Bee’s Top 25 rankings begets another 1-2 showdown this week.
Buchanan beat Liberty-Bakersfield 35-27 last week in a lightning-shortened game, sending the Bears to No. 1.
Liberty dropped from the top to No. 6 because San Joaquin Memorial, Clovis, West, Hanford and Central all posted impressive wins.
That makes the next marquee matchup Friday at San Joaquin Memorial when the No. 1 Bears play the No. 2 Panthers.
No. 5 Central, winner on the final play over Bishop Diego on Saturday in Santa Barbara, will host Liberty on Friday.
Entering the rankings for the first time this season are No. 24 Lompoc (3-0) and No. 25 Kerman (4-0). Kerman rolled past then-No. 25 Sunnyside 44-18 to bump the Wildcats out of the rankings.
