Big comeback! How Central won on the final play against Bishop Diego-Santa Barbara

It looked bleak for the Central High football team.

Down 34-17 with seven minutes to go in Santa Barbara, it seemed The Bee’s sixth-ranked Grizzlies were on their way to a loss.

Not so fast.

Central scored 21 unanswered points, including the winning points when Dayton Tafoya found Joshua Hill for a 25-yard touchdown with 2 seconds remaining, giving the Grizzlies a 38-34 victory over Bishop Diego-Santa Barbara.

Central was in position after Noah Bohanna recovered a fumble on the Grizzlies’ 25-yard line with about 1:10 remaining in the game.

Tafoya finished the game with three touchdown passes and Michael James had two rushing touchdowns.

Also Saturday, No. 3 San Joaquin Memorial beat Garces 28-6 in Bakersfield in the annual Holy Bowl game.
