The towers that house 90% of the beds at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno were built in the 1950s and ‘60s. Patients today talk of decrepit conditions in parts of the towers, and that gets addressed in this opinion cartoon by SW Parra.

An in-depth investigation by Bee staff writer Yesenia Amaro found that Community Health Systems, the parent organization in charge of CRMC, prioritized building up its campus at Clovis Community Medical Center over fixing the downtown hospital. CMRC now faces a seismic upgrade deadline imposed by the state. How that deadline will be met remains to be seen.
