Severe weather in the Fresno forecast, including possible thunderstorms, isolated tornado
Weather in the Fresno-area could be severe on Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Hanford says there is “an increasing threat for severe thunderstorms” with the best time frame for storms 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“A few thunderstorms could be strong to severe, as a line of showers and thunderstorms enters the Central Valley,” the NWS wrote Wednesday.
The series of storms began Wednesday and is expected to continue through Friday.
The weather service said an isolated tornado on Thursday cannot be ruled out — though meteorologist Brian Ochs said that forecast has “pretty low confidence.” It really depends if the sun breaks through and heats the ground, he said.
“There’s going to have to be a lot of different factors coming into play — especially if we clear out during the day between bands of precipitation,” Ochs said. “If you get clearing in the afternoon, that’s usually more favorable for stronger thunderstorms.”
