Update: Pedestrian killed crossing Clinton Avenue in Fresno identified by coroner
A 58-year-old pedestrian was killed Monday night after he was struck by a vehicle in Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the vehicle versus pedestrian at 7:40 p.m. at Clinton Avenue, near Highway 168 involving a Toyota pickup that was eastbound on Clinton. CHP said the pedestrian ran southbound to cross Clinton directly into the path of the vehicle.
The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian and struck him, CHP said.
The pedestrian was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he died.
He was identified Wednesday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as William Hanson, of Fresno.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.
The investigation is ongoing.
The use of alcohol and/or drugs was ruled out on the part of the driver, CHP said.
The pedestrian’s impairment is unknown pending toxicology results, CHP said.
”CHP urges pedestrians to exercise caution when crossing roadways, especially in areas where visibility may be limited,” CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said.
