A pedestrian died Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run near downtown Fresno.
Fresno Police Lt. Justin Hoagland said an officer was flagged down by a witness who said she saw a vehicle hit the woman just before 9 p.m. at Ventura and F Streets.
The officer had just exited Highway 99 to get onto Ventura after the witness told the cop what happened and found the woman in the No. 1 lane on westbound Ventura.
Hoagland said the woman was suffering from serious trauma. Officers provided care before EMS took her to Community Regional Medical Center, where she died. The coroner identified the victim as 41-year-old Alina Ortega, of Fresno.
Hoagland said the witness described the alleged vehicle as a large, dark-colored SUV, possibly black or brown.
“They made no attempt to stop after striking the pedestrian as she was crossing the roadway,” Hoagland said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police at 559-621-7000.
