Hit-and-run suspect arrested after striking 4-year-old in Fresno, police say
A man who allegedly fled the scene after hitting a young child with his car has been arrested.
Aman Kumar, 31, was arrested early Wednesday at a residence near Peach and Florence avenues on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury, according to jail booking info.
Police received reports of the hit-and-run around 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said.
The victim, a 4-year-old child, was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was in critical but stable condition, police said.
Officers said the victim was playing in the backyard as his father and uncle worked on a car. He exited through a gate without the adults noticing and walked into the bike lane.
Cars traveling northbound on Peach Avenue stopped for the child, but Kumar drove into the bike lane to go around the traffic and struck the child, Trueba Vega said.
Police say Kumar fled the scene, though witnesses got his license plate number.
Kumar’s car was impounded for evidence after his arrest.
