A Fresno elementary school was placed on a short-lived lockdown due to a juvenile trespasser who police say assaulted a staff member.

A.J. Kato, a spokesperson for the district, said a Fresno Unified student who didn’t attend Muir Elementary entered the campus early Friday morning during school hours.

The juvenile, 17, didn’t interact with any students, Kato said, and the school was placed on a brief lockdown.

“The measure was precautionary and was lifted quickly, and our safety team was onsite along with first responders to make sure everyone was safe,” Kato said.

Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the 17-year-old assaulted a staff member. Police made a report but have not made any arrests, Trueba Vega said.
