The victim shot and killed at a barbershop Saturday afternoon has been identified by the Fresno Police Department.

Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes in an update Monday said Jampier Quintero, 44, was the man killed in the shooting that included two other victims.

Quintero had taken his 5-year-old and 11-year-old sons to get haircuts at Los Viejones Barbershop at 201 N. Van Ness Avenue near Belmont Avenue, where he was shot outside the shop.

Cervantes said there were an altercation inside the barbershop between various patrons before shots were fired while the suspect was in the barber chair.

The suspect left the business and continued to fire shots outside where he struck Quintero in the parking lot, Cervantes said.

Quintero died Sunday afternoon, Cervantes said. Police initially said he died Saturday evening.

“This is senseless,” Cervantes said. “Had nothing to do with the patrons. Had nothing to do with any of the suspects that were present, nor involved in the shooting incident. Very tragic.”

The suspect was described to be is in his early 20s with dark hair and he left the scene in a westerly direction, police said.

The two other victims, a 17-year-old and 20-year-old, were taken to the hospital and were later released.

The motive for the shooting is still being investigated.

Cervantes said Quintero is not a gang member, but the shooting appears to be gang related.

Detectives have conducted a canvass of the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.

The shooting death marked is the homicide in Fresno in 2025, police said.
