Update: Pedestrian ID’d after hit and killed by vehicle in Fresno. Driver left but returned

A pedestrian was killed Monday morning when he was hit by a vehicle in Fresno.

The collision happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. at Olive and Chestnut avenues, Fresno police Sgt. Diana Trueba-Vega said.

Officers found the victim in the road. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he underwent surgery. Trueba Vega said the man died during surgery. The age of the victim was not known immediately.

The driver initially left the scene but returned, Trueba Vega said. He was identified as 42-year-old Victor Thomas Jr. of Fresno.

It’s unknown if the driver will face any charges.

“We don’t know exactly how long the driver was gone,” she said.

The driver was being cooperative.
