Update: 98-year-old woman ID’d in suspected DUI crash in Fresno. Another person was injured
A pedestrian was killed and another was injured Wednesday night in a suspected DUI collision.
The fatal crash happened just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Chestnut and Hamilton avenues near Fresno Pacific University.
Officers arrived and found the driver of a Honda Odyssey and two victims — a 98-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man. Both were taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
The woman was pronounced dead several hours after the collision, Fresno police spokesperson Luke Tran said. She was identified on Feb. 7 as Micaela Segura Morales of Fresno.
The man had a head laceration, rib fracture and punctured lung.
A witness told officers that the victims were walking east across Chestnut near the south side of Hamilton before they were struck. When they were hit, they had already crossed the entirety of the southbound lanes and the majority of the northbound lanes.
The driver was determined to be under the influence of alcohol, Tran said.
The driver was arrested and booked in the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol and enhancements for causing great bodily injury to persons over the age of 70 during the commission of a felony.
