Man killed and woman injured following shovel attack at Fresno home, police say
A man was killed Monday night after he was attacked by another man with a shovel in a Fresno neighborhood, police said.
Officers responded just before 6 p.m. at Balch and Callish avenues about a disturbance at a home where two people had arrived to drop off property, Fresno Police Lt. Leslie Williams said.
The suspect allegedly attacked the victims with a shovel before a neighbor intervened and tried to stop the attack, Williams said. The suspect then injured himself with an edged weapon.
All three were taken to a hospital where the one of the victims — described to be a man in his mid-20s — was pronounced dead.
The other victim, a woman in her mid-20s, was in stable co condition.
The suspect was also in stable condition and will be booked at the jail once he is released from the hospital, police said.
Williams said the suspect and the woman had a prior dating relationship.
The man killed was a friend of the woman, Williams said.
Officers and homicide detectives were on the scene for several hours.
