Man injured in pursuit crash reaching 120 mph in Fresno, CHP says. He was wanted

Officers pursued a man who drive at speeds of up to 120 mph before crashing in Fresno, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.

Officers attempted to stop a 2006 Cadillac CTS about 2:15 a.m. Friday on Jensen Avenue east of Golden State Boulevard, but the driver did not yield to the lights and sirens, CHP officer Mike Salas said.

The man, whose age was not available, sped through a red light at Church Avenue at about 105 mph, CHP said. He then entered Highway 99 going north.

On the highway was where his speed reached 120 mph during the pursuit, CHP said, before he exited at McKinley Avenue.

He was unable to stop as he left 99, crossing all lanes of McKinley and striking a light pole. The pursuit stretched about 5.5 miles.

Officers said he was wanted on an outstanding warrant, but the details of that were not available.

The driver was taken into custody without further incident, Salas said. He was treated for minor to moderate injuries at Community Regional Medical Center.

He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, CHP said.
