Man killed on ATV slammed into cement pipe overnight in Fresno County, CHP says

A man was killed in rural Fresno County on Thursday when the ATV he was driving slammed into a cement structure in a crash that may have involved alcohol, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 46-year-old was driving a 1992 Polaris Trail Boss 350 on private property along Jefferson east of McCall avenues in Del Rey during the night between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, CHP said.

He did not see a concrete standpipe, a large cement tower that is part of a water system, which was directly in his path, CHP said.

The ATV struck the pipe and the man, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected, CHP said. He died from his injuries at the scene.

His name was not immediately available.

CHP said alcohol was suspected of being a factor in the crash, but the investigation was ongoing.
