Update: Big rig crash in Fresno County kills mother, CHP says. Son has major injuries

A woman died Friday after a Fresno County collision involving a big rig, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision happened about 5 a.m. at the intersection of Manning Avenue and McMullin Grade, halfway between Raisin City and San Joaquin, Officer Mike Salas confirmed.

A 21-year-old man from Kerman was driving a 2012 Dodge Avenger east on Manning but failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of McMullin, CHP said.

The 42-year-old man from Coalinga in the commercial big rig, which had the right-of-way and no stop sign, on McMullin struck the Dodge within the intersection, CHP said.

The female passenger in the Dodge, who officers believe was the mother of the driver, died from her injuries at the scene, Salas said.

The Dodge driver was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries.

A crew was also cleaning up a hazardous materials spill of diesel fuel related to the big rig, CHP said.
