Motorist arrested after fiery Fresno County crash and accused of manslaughter, CHP says
A driver involved in a fatal Fresno County crash has been arrested and accused of manslaughter, the California Highway Patrol said Thursday.
The 26-year-old motorist was driving a 2020 Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed north of Sanger and crashed it into a slower moving 2003 Honda Odyssey, killing the driver, CHP said.
She’s accused of voluntary manslaughter and was also driving without a license, officer Carlos Trejo said.
The Dodge was on Highway 180 going east near Bethel Avenue about 3 a.m. Wednesday when it struck the Honda from behind, pushing the van off the road and into a tree before it burst into flames, CHP said.
The Honda driver died at the scene, CHP said. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Thursday it had not yet confirmed the victim’s identity.
The Dodge driver and her three passengers were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, CHP said.
She was no longer in custody on Thursday, according to Fresno County Jail records.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as a factor in the crash.
