Driver killed when rear-ended and pushed into tree in fiery Fresno County crash, CHP says
A driver was killed in a fiery crash in Fresno County north of Sanger early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.
A 2020 Dodge Charger moving at a high rate of speed rear-ended a 2003 Honda Odyssey about 3 a.m. on Highway 180 as they headed east near Bethel Avenue, CHP officer Carlos Trejo said.
The Honda was pushed to the right shoulder and into a tree before bursting into flames, he said.
It was not immediately clear why the Dodge struck the Honda from behind in the fatal crash, CHP said. The Honda was traveling at a slower rate of speed than the Dodge.
The Honda driver died at the scene, he said. No information on that driver was available.
The Dodge driver, a 23-year-old woman, and her three passengers were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, CHP said.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected as a factor in the crash.
