Teen killed in head-on crash in Madera Ranchos identified. Driver suspected of DUI

A teen killed in a suspected DUI crash in Madera Ranchos was identified Wednesday by the Madera County Coroner’s Office.

Maria Villalobos, 19, of Madera was killed in a head-on collision about 7 p.m. Sunday while traveling east on Avenue 15 east of Road 39 1/2 in a 2012 Mini Cooper, the coroner said.

Headed in the other direction on Avenue 15 was a 24-year-old Fresno man, the California Highway Patrol said. He allowed his 2014 Chevrolet Camaro to travel across the yellow line, according to CHP.

The cars collided head-on, causing fatal injuries to Villalobos, CHP said. The man suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

He is under arrest and will be taken into custody upon being released from the hospital, according to CHP officer Javier Ruvalcaba.
