A 19-year-old woman died in a crash caused by a suspected DUI driver near Madera Ranchos, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

The Madera woman was traveling east on Avenue 15 east of Road 39 1/2 in a 2012 Mini Cooper about 7 p.m. Sunday, a CHP news release said.

At the same time, Lorenzo Antonio Morales Cortes, 24, of Fresno, was driving in the opposite direction on Avenue 15 in a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro before he allowed his car to travel across the yellow line, CHP said.

The cars collided head-on, causing fatal injuries to the woman, CHP said. Morales Cortes suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

He is under arrest and will be taken into custody upon being released from the hospital, according to officer Javier Ruvalcaba.
