Update: Suspect fires gun recklessly, killing long-time friend in Fresno home, police say

A 27-year-old man was killed in northwest Fresno when a long-time friend recklessly fired a gun inside a home, police said in an update Wednesday.

According to police, Jason Vitug was with several others about 10 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Cromwell Avenue near Gregory Avenue, which is north of Alluvial and west of Milburn avenues.

Officers say 21-year-old Jacob King pulled out a gun and fired, striking Vitug, police said. No argument or fight between the friends preceded the gunfire.

Emergency personnel rendered aid, but Vitug died at the scene inside the home, police said.

Officers spoke with all of the people inside the home during the shooting, which included about five people, police said.

King was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.
