One killed in house fire in a detached living space in central Fresno, firefighters say
A person died in fire in a detached living area behind a house in central Fresno on Tuesday, according to Fresno Fire Department.
The building near San Pablo and McKenzie avenues was engulfed in flames about 12:30 a.m. when crews arrived, according to Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless.
Possibly once used as a detached garage, Wanless said, the building had been converted into a living quarters for one adult.
After firefighters knocked down the flames, the adult was found inside, he said. Firefighters could not immediately say the gender of the victim due to the fatal flames.
About 26 firefighters responded to the home with three engines and two fire trucks, plus a battalion chief and a safety officer, he said.
