Fresno police ask for public’s help in nabbing a murder suspect. A 17-year-old was killed
The Fresno Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a murder suspect from a 2020 shooting.
Officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired on Dec. 29 at Fairmont and Holt avenues and found 17-year-old Jaylin Johnson with gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives learned that Johnson had been dropped off by a friend at Fairmont and Marks avenues and was walking to a nearby home when the suspect in a silver sedan allegedly fired multiple shots at him.
Wounded, Johnson tried to flee the area but the suspect got out of the car and chased him and fired additional shots, striking him several more times.
“Johnson did nothing to provoke this senseless act of violence,” police wrote in a news release.
Police said Johnson’s bother, Devin Johnson, was shot and killed at the Bowlero in February 2022. Investigators don’t believe the shootings are related.
Anyone with information is asked to call detective Benny Barnes at 559-621-2421 or can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
