Fresno police were called to the collision around 1 a.m. and found a Volkswagen Jetta crashed into a tree on the south side of Shaw near 7th Street. A second car was stopped across the eastbound lanes of Shaw at 9th Street.

The second driver was uninjured and cooperated with officers.

Police said witness reported both cars were driving fast on Shaw approaching Millbrook when a third vehicle pulled in front them, causing both to swerve and then collide.

The third car, described by police as an early 2000s white Chevy Malibu or Impala, did not stop.

Detectives from the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating. Roads within the collision scene were still closed Monday morning. Police expected to have them reopened by noon.
