A 37-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen late Saturday evening in central Fresno.

The shooting happened just before midnight in the 800 block of East Weldon Avenue near Fresno City College.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Fresno police Lt. Sean Biggs said it is unknown what led up to the shooting because the victim was uncooperative. The gunfire was detected on the Fresno Police Department’s ShotSpotter electronic audio surveillance system.

Biggs said a shell casing was found at the scene, and it appeared he was shot in between the apartment and the carport. Biggs added the man was living inside a vehicle behind the apartment complex where his mom resides.

The man doesn’t appear to have any gang ties. Officers were also canvassing for surveillance cameras.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
