Detectives seek witnesses, camera footage after Fresno man shot in the face

A 31-year-old man was wounded in the face by a single gunshot Friday night in southeast Fresno.

The man’s girlfriend told investigators that she was inside the home on East McKenzie Avenue when she heard gunfire outside at about 10:22 p.m., Fresno Police Lt. Sean Biggs said. The woman said she went outside and saw her boyfriend stumbling backwards from a brown pickup truck, which took off east on McKenzie toward Jackson Avenue.

There was no apparent argument that led to the shooting, Biggs said, and the gunfire did not register on the Fresno Police Department’s ShotSpotter electronic audio surveillance system. The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno, where he was reported to be conscious and breathing.

Detectives initially found no physical evidence such as shell casings, and so far there are no other witnesses. Investigators are looking in the neighborhood to see if any surveillance cameras may have captured what happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fresno Police Department at 559-621-7000.
