The boy told officers that he was taking out the trash in the front of the complex when he was approached by two men and a woman, according to Biggs.

The men exchanged words with the teenager, then pulled out handguns and opened fire. The boy was trying to run into the complex when he was struck, police said.

The suspected shooters left in two vehicles, with one described by authorities as a red sedan with black wheels. Police did not have a description of the second vehicle.
