Van crashes into Fresno taco truck, injuring customers and damaging parked vehicle

Two customers at a Fresno taco truck were injured Saturday night after a van plowed into the parked food truck and through the nearby eating area and line.

Fresno Police said several 911 calls came in around 6:55 p.m. of a van crashing into the Tacos El Bello food truck that was parked near the intersection of Maple and Belmont avenues in southeast Fresno.

Lt. Paul Cervantes said a man in his 50s was eating at a table near the food truck when the vehicle came toward him and the taco truck.

It’s unclear exactly how the man got injured but he suffered significant head trauma and was transported to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center, according to police. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, Cervantes added.

In addition, a woman in her 40s scraped her arm and knee while trying to get out of the vehicle’s way upon noticing the van accelerate toward the food truck.

The taco truck, meanwhile, was damaged near its front bumper and closed early for the night.

Cervantes said the suspect who was driving the van took off running after the collision with the Tacos El Bello vehicle. Police soon after discovered a case of beer in the van.

Using surveillance video from nearby stores and accounts from witnesses, a 45-year-old man was arrested in connection to the crash at his home about two hours after the collision.

Rolando Enrique Alvarenga Aguilar was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, as well as probation violation.
