Two men shot in southwest Fresno during running gunfight between groups, police say

A gunbattle Saturday night in southwest Fresno left two men critically wounded, police said.

Officers arrived around 10 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 2200 block of South Plumas Street, near California Avenue.

Witnesses said they heard gunfire and described a shootout between two groups, sprawling across multiple locations in the area, Fresno Police Lt. Tim Tietjen said.

It wasn’t immediately clear what sparked the violence. No arrests were reported Sunday.

The two wounded men were transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where they were listed in critical condition.

Detectives were searching for surveillance camera footage and talking to witnesses.

The crime scene stretched across three different locations, including the Family Dollar parking lot where investigators found one of the victims, Tietjen said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
