Man, 25, fatally shot in central Fresno

A man was killed in an early Saturday shooting in central Fresno, with police searching for a vehicle that may have been involved.

Officers arrived after 2:30 a.m. in the area of North Poplar and East White avenues, near Belmont Avenue, Lt. Stephen Viveros said, and found a 25-year-old man with gunshot wounds on the roadway. He was identified Sunday as Angel Guerra of Fresno.

Guerra was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died.

Investigators are trying to determine if a vehicle reported to have been in the area at the time of the shooting was involved, Viveros said.

Police are asking witnesses to call 559-621-7000 with information. Callers can remain anonymous.
