Unborn baby killed in crash caused by driver wanted in shooting, Fresno police say

An unborn baby was killed in a two-car crash in central Fresno allegedly caused by a suspect in a shooting, Fresno police said Thursday.

Police spokesman Jeff LaBlue said that 22-year-old Jimmy Keonhothy was arrested and charged with murder, felony DUI and felony evading.

He was arrested at the scene Wednesday with signs of being under the influence of methamphetamine, LaBlue said.

Keonhothy is accused of leading police on a chase around 2:30 p.m. at Tyler Avenue and Bond Street and running two stop signs before crashing into a Toyota Camry driven by a woman while trying to outrun police.

The collision sent both vehicles into the front yard of a residence in the 3400 block of Olive Avenue.

The Fresno Fire Department used the jaws-of-life to free the woman. She was rushed to a hospital where the unborn baby was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts, LaBlue said.

The woman was in critical condition.

Suspect had criminal history, police say

Officers noticed the vehicle Keonhothy was driving matched the description of one from a shooting at Tyler Avenue and 8th Street during the week of Aug. 17.

Surveillance footage confirmed the match, and a gun and illegal drugs were located in the vehicle, LaBlue said.

LaBlue said Keonhothy was also found to be an unlicensed driver and had a criminal history with more than 10 arrests for vehicle theft along with multiple charges of theft and burglary.

Capt. Anthony Martinez on Wednesday said three other people in the suspect’s vehicle were arrested. Information on the status of the other suspects was not available Thursday.

The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be added, LaBlue said.
